Welcome to ArboraNano

Welcome to the ArboraNano Archive Site.

ArboraNano, the Canadian Forest NanoProducts Network, completed its mandate as a Business-Led Network of Centres of Excellence (BL-NCE) on March 31, 2014.

ArboraNano was the Canadian Forest NanoProducts Network made possible through the Government of Canada’s Business-led Networks of Centres of Excellence program, FPInnovations and NanoQuébec. An important component in the strategy of the Canadian forest-products industry, ArboraNano created new business opportunities for Canadian manufacturers by applying renewable forest resources to the development of new, value-added products with superior performance attributes.

ArboraNano brought together researchers from vastly different industries to research and develop products that were based on plant-derived nanomaterials – nanocellulose. The properties of nanocellulose and the many forms in which it can be made means that it has the potential to be used in many different ways to create biocomposites, bioplastics, iridescent coatings, wear-resistance surface treatments, drug delivery systems and more. As well, ArboraNano brought together scientists and engineers focused on using nanotechnology to develop advanced new high-value forest products and enhance the performance of traditional paper and building products.
